a simple + modern birth announcement

My dear friend Kristen - gardener, chef, writer, woman-extraordinaire - had her first baby a little while ago, and I was so honored when she asked me to design a birth announcement. She had another friend, professional photographer Priscilla Varner, take the photos of Lydia Jane.

I wanted to wait until we had the photos to design the announcement so it could really be a custom design. Priscilla did not disappoint! The photos were soft, sweet and intimate. It was clear that the design had to have the same restraint so those beautiful pictures could shine. So rather than add a lot of design elements, I decided to keep it simple and modern.

Color scheme: chocolate + sand

Size: 5 x 7 inches

Paper: off-white bamboo stock with a little bit of texture

Of note: I used the same font for the birth announcement as I did in part of the thank you notes and baby shower invitation. Although all three pieces were unique in their own ways, a crisp, modern font subtly tied everything together.

The details of the birth appear in a light, sandy-colored block of text, with the emphasis on mom + dad's names and three black and white shots of baby Lydia.

I think this simple design would work beautifully for a holiday card this year. What do you think?
