color me thankful
Yesterday, I shared with you a series of photos and asked what you think they have in common? Well, they all served as color inspiration for a set of thank you notes I designed. Since we're talking about typography this week, I only used text. I'd like to walk you through the design from start to finish. Once again, we're working on a camera repair, and I printed and trimmed these at home, so they're not perfect.
Here's the finished product, so you know where I'm going:
I was really inspired by the back wall of this nursery {note: I found the photo on Pinterest but couldn't locate the original source. If you track it down, or if it belongs to you, please email me. I'd love to give credit where credit is due!}.
The blue-on-blue letters gave me the idea to create a card using the phrase "thank you" a bunch of times, layered on top of each other. I started by typing "thank you" a few times in Adobe Illustrator and then playing with font, size and transparency, which is why some of the "thank yous" are lighter. They're the exact same color, but the percentage of color saturation varies.
Then I moved the "thank yous" around the page, overlapping them, sliding them off the page in places, in order to create a layered effect. I also copied and pasted to add more "thank yous." I continued this process, playing with placement and size, until I filled the space.
More nursery inspiration came from my friend Mackenzie, who's prego with baby #3, her first girl. She's using Dwell Studio's Rosette bedding and this gorgeous mobile from Frazier and Wing. I loved the shades of pink with the orange.
So that's it! A little bit of text, some design and color inspiration, and voila! Four simple and - dare I say - pretty thank you cards. What color schemes are YOU loving these days?

Color is so much fun. The pic of this Serena & Lily pillow is actually taken in my little one's nursery. That's our upholstered glider from Buy Buy Baby and a gorgeous crocheted blanket from my dear (and crazy talented) friend, Kimberly McQueen. These objects inspired a lime and navy color scheme.
Alexander Creative's subway art inspired a gray and black color scheme. The text is so light that you can write on top of it.
The last color scheme, light blues with red, basically came from the original nursery inspiration. I replaced the orange in the photo with red. Light blue with almost anything bold really does it for me.
