our new normal

Right now we are rapidly adapting to our new normal: life with a toddler AND a newborn.

Four weeks ago we celebrated the arrival of Owen Patrick, our second little boy. It's been a tough month. Beyond the usual challenges of having a newborn and a toddler (sleepless nights, spit-up, random tantrums and crying fits), I wound up back in the hospital twice after we brought Owen home. More to come on all of that.

For now I'm finding that there's much for which to be thankful.

I had a textbook labor and delivery. We have two healthy boys who both take naps in the afternoon. Nick is not deployed or scheduled to deploy anytime soon. Owen is eating well and gaining lots of weight.

I have been able to get enough sleep at night to function during the day (not very well, but we're celebrating small victories). We have incredible friends who have been supporting us with meals.

My mom moved heaven and earth to basically be our night nurse for a week. My sister and mother-in-law both jumped in to help Nick while I was hospitalized.

We have a toddler who sleeps 12+ hours at night. Ben has finally warmed up to Owen (I was convinced I'd ruined his life).

We are finally all healthy, safe and under the same roof.

After spending so much time away from Owen after delivering him, I'm just so grateful that we are all together and we're all healthy. Nothing beats that. Oh, and I have a few minutes alone this afternoon to edit some photos and share them with you. That's pretty cool, too.
